21.07.2015 All flat (brachycephale) nose pets no longer can fly on Air Canada. Neither in-cabin nor in-hold.

Travelling with your pet

We know how important your pet is to you. That's why we always do our best to accommodate your animal on board, and we are committed to taking the very best care of all the animals that are entrusted to us.

Pets in the cabin

* For cats and small dogs only
* Your pet travels with you at your seat

Your cat or small dog can travel with you in the cabin on any Air Canada or Jazz flight provided it is small enough to fit and stay comfortably in its carrier under the seat in front of you.

ote: Soft-sided kennels are recommended. Kennels that do not meet the dimensions above will not be accepted.

You'll need to register your pet in advance for travel on the same flight as yours by contacting Air Canada Reservations. Pets that have not been registered in advance will not be accepted at the airport.

We recommend that you register your pet within 24 hours of completing your booking. If your pet cannot be accommodated on the flight(s) and date(s) you selected, your ticket can then be refunded without charge.

After 24 hours, any changes to your booking will be subject to applicable change and cancellation fees.

Pets in the baggage compartment

* For cats and dogs only
* Your pet travels in the checked baggage compartment, on the same flight as you

Your pet can't fly in the cabin with you? It can still travel safely on the same flight as you in the checked baggage compartment.

June 20 to Sep. 10
Pets as checked baggage No pets are accepted as checked baggage on any flights due to potentially high temperatures on the ground at some airports, as well as heavy loads during peak summer travel periods.

Air Canada Cargo still accepts animals during this time (see exceptions below).

Pets as cargo Due to extreme heat and USDA regulations, the transport of pets in the baggage compartment is prohibited or strictly regulated to and from airports in the following cities:
Atlanta (ATL)
Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW)
Fort Lauderdale (FLL)
Houston (IAH)
Las Vegas (LAS)
Miami (MIA)
Orlando (MCO)
Phoenix (PHX)
Contact Air Canada Cargo for complete details.

Maximum allowable weight
32 kg (70 lb) (pet and carrier combined)

Pets shipped via Air Canada Cargo

* For a variety of animals, including cats and dogs
* When your pet needs to travel alone

Air Canada Cargo ships a wide variety of animals, from cats and dogs to hatching eggs, insects and tropical fish. You can be sure that your pet will travel safely and comfortably to its destination.

Pets in the Maple Leaf Lounges

Pets are allowed in our Maple Leaf Lounges only under the following conditions:

* Pets must remain with the owner and must be kept in the pet carrier at all times;
* The pet carrier must be leak proof and well ventilated (both soft and hard-sided carriers are accepted for carry-on);
* No part of the pet may extend outside the pet carrier.

Service animals

Certified, professionally-trained service animals assisting customers with disabilities are carried, free of charge, in the passenger cabin at the customer's feet, provided the animal is harnessed and is certified as having been trained to assist a person with a disability by a professional service animal institution (as a requirement under the Canadian Air Transportation Regulations).

You must pre-register your service animal through the Medical Assistance Desk at Air Canada Reservations. View exceptions and specific details for itineraries between Canada and the United States.

Allergy sufferers

We are sensitive to the concerns of allergy sufferers, and we understand that some of our customers may not wish to be seated too close to a cat or small dog during their flight. For this reason, we ask that, if you are an allergy sufferer, you advise the check-in agent or gate agent prior to your flight departure to ensure you are not next to a customer travelling with a pet. We will make reasonable efforts to move you or the pet and pet owner.

Limitation of liability

Air Canada will not be responsible in the event of loss, delay, injury, sickness or death of any pet or animal accepted for transportation.
